Hello! I cannot download the clips - it gets all the way to where it's just
about to add them and then I get "Could not open file C:\Documents and
Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5\0FF86KCH\ClipArt[2].cil."

My temp internet files are all cleaned out. Not sure what else it could be?

I tried to find artgal.mmc - but no file was found. So I figured I'd check
for artgal.old - nothing. Tried to work w/ removing Clip Gallery but when I
click on Change/Remove - it says "Setup cannot find the files on
'\\NETWORK\APPS\MIS\APPS\MSOFFI~1\' I assume our IT will have to do it? Sorry
for the silly question.

The file you want is in a folder similar to this:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ARTGALRY
Double-click the ARTGALRY.EXE file. This will re-register the Gallery.

Your problem is with your temporary cache. What version Internet Explorer are
you using? Many times the problem will go away by moving the temp folder.
In Internet Explorer, tools, Internet Options, move folder.

This might be something I actually know something about--a temporary(?) fix
is to download to a flash drive and then move everything to My
Documents--they can then be opened into the Downloaded Clips file in
Documents and Settings/Your Name/Application Data/Microsoft/Media Catalog.
It's called "conning the computer".

I would love to but when I get to the download page - I don't have that
option - it doesn't let me choose a location to download to. Thanks though!

Did you go into the Local Settings folder and try to delete or rename the cil
file? .cil is the format Microsoft uses for clipart. What happens if you
double-click the file?

Unfortunately, there are no .cil files in the local settings folder - they're
not even making it that far.

Does it ask whether you want to Open or Save the file? If so hit "Save" and
then it will let you pick a location.

Sorry, it was my first posting. I'm having exactly the same response when I
try to download clipart. I've cleaned out the temp files, downloaded the
latest Java update, double-clicked on the ARTGALRY.EXE file and it still
won't work. It used to! Help!

Also, when you say to move the temp folder, where do I move it to?

Open the Gallery, Right click any catalog image, click recover...
You can move the temp folder anywhere, My Documents would be okay. Windows will
create a new temp folder.

Mary,

I right clicked on a picture and then clicked on refresh (there is no
recover). I moved the temp folder to My Documents. When I tried to download
a clip just now, I got the Cannot Open message again, but with the My
Documents\Temp Internet File\........\ Clipart[1].cil location. Now what
should I do? I only have 1 more day to get this fixed.
