If you use some type of software to create an
actual slide show you cannot control it the way
you describe.
However...if you have a DVD Player that is JPEG
compliant...you could create a Data CD or DVD
and do the task you describe.
Just burn the folder/s of JPEG/s on a Data Disk
and the DVD player will recognize the folders.
Using the remote control...select the folder you
want to display and the photos will begin to rotate
from one to the other...you will have to 'Pause' it
and then advance one at a time using your remote
control.
FWIW...some TVs have screen savers that kick in
after a few minutes of inactivity...so you may have
an interruption with that if you leave an image paused
for too long.
