can microsoft office picture manager make panoramic images?
===============================
I think what you are seeking is a stitching
program that will create a panorama from
a series of digital images.

The trial version of MS Digital Image Suite
2006 has a Panorama option that works
vertically as well as horizontally.

Microsoft Digital Image
Starter Edition 2006
http://tinyurl.com/28loxr
(this product line has been
discontinued but you can still
down-load the Starter Version
and run it for 60 days)

Unlike the retail version...the trial does not
have the ability to create VCDs and it does
not include the clipart and pre-formatted
projects.

True...but IrfanView just attaches the
images end to end...it does not actually
stitch them together in a seamless
panorama.
