How do I embed a list of captions in my photos?

I'm trying to figure out how to get a list of captions I have for jpeg photos
transferred into the corner of the photos, themselves. Because I have
dozens, I don't want to edit each photo by hand using MSPaint. Do you know
of a program which will merge a list of photo captions with the photos, so
that the photos could be printed or otherwise displayed with their captions?

following free app will append the file names
to the face of images in a batch.

John,
Unfortunately, my filenames are just serial numbers (image01, image02,
image03, etc.), and I don't want them on my photos. I have, however, a nice
list of captions stored in Excel with the corresponding filenames. I'd like
to embed the captions in the photos. Of course, I can edit the photos
one-at-a-time with MSPaint and add text by typing it, but the captions are
already in the spreadsheet, and there's gotta be an easier way.
