Discussion:
Microsoft Clip Organizer Web Collections
(too old to reply)

I cannot access Web Collections through Microsoft Clip Organizer. I have
read the links suggesting deleting the related files in my user profile, and
compacting, and detect and repair and I am certain that I have access to the
web and no other program running has blocked access to the web. I am running
XP, Office 2007.

When I search for a clip and try to expand the Web Collections tree, nothing
happens. I can only see clips on my computer. I can view clips online at
microsoft site, but that time consuming option is not a satisfying solution.

I see from browsing discussion boards that others have had this problem and
I look forward to hearing any solutions. Thank you in advance.

I don't think so John. Another pc in the same network has no difficulty
accessing web collections. I have disabled the windows firewall and there is
no other third party firewall like Zone Alarm, only the ATT router which like
I mentioned is allowing other PC's to acces web collections through Microsoft
Clip Organizer.
Thank you.

If you open Microsoft Clip Organizer and
left click the + to expand Web Collections....
what happens? Do you see an hourglass?

Something is blocking your access...but I
have no idea what. Maybe it's an issue with
a virus scanner or possibly your router.

When I access the clipart site from MS Clip
Organizer I receive three alerts from my fire
wall (ZoneAlarm).

'Media Catalog Object is trying to access the Internet'
'Clip Organizer is trying to access the trusted zone'
'Clip Organizer is trying to access the Internet'

After allowing all three...the thumbs for the
clips appear.

Thank you John. I have tried disabling my anti-virus software (AVG), also
tried uninstalling it completely. I am currently checking the router and so
far there is no noticeable difference in settings for this computer versus
the other on the network for accessing the web. I'm going to uninstall
explorere 8 and reinstall an earlier version to see if that helps.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Edward

At least...now we know IE8 wasn't the cause.

Are you running a firewall?

The Media control is enabled.

I am beginning to wonder if this is an issue related to Internet Explore 8
(Beta) and today while everyone is recovering from Thanksgiving, I'm going to
uninstall Explorer 8 and reinstall an earlier version.

Thank you for you suggestions, I am grateful and will continue to look for a
solution.

Do you have a download manager installed? When the Clip Organizer was introduced
in Office XP, download managers would interfere with web collections.

I downloaded Ccleaner on the recommendation of a friend.
Ran it and it fixed a bumch of registry issues
and bam!
Web Collection is now available.
Go figure
wish I could tell you which registry entry was the culprit.

I have found a "solution" to this problem. If you go into Internet
options/connections/LAN settings and check the box at the top (automatically
detect settings) and Click Ok. Then go back to Word and try the online
clipart it will work.

It is a per user setting.

Or you can give people local admin rights to the computer. That works too.
