Is it possible to use clip art pictures to create custom emoticons to use in
Live Messenger? I have tried using Clip Art Organiser and I seem to have
saved stuff into "my collections" (although when I open this, the file name
shows - NOT the picture, which is not very helpful). When I try to create an
emoticon and click on "find image" I can't find the clip art folder where "my
collection" is apparently saved. Thank you.

What program are you using to create the emoticon? There are many icons on the
Office site, have you looked at those?

If you have downloaded icons into the Organizer, they will be in *My Pictures*,
Microsoft Clip Organizer.

When I am using Windows Live Messenger and click Tools, Emoticons, Create, a
window opens which says "Find Image" but from there I cannot access the
Microsoft Clip Organiser which is where the clips are stored. I have tried
everything but still cannot access the Clip Organiser from the "create an
emoticon" window.

I think you should ask this on a Messenger forum.

I tried that first and the people at Windows Live Messenger support told me
to contact Microsoft Office technical support. Looks like I've found a
problem that no-one can (or wishes to) deal with. Thanks for trying anyway.
