My new computer has "Windows Vista Home Premium". I try to install software
that I used on my old computer that had Windows XP but am unable to. I NEED
to use these programs but cannot until I make them compatible. How do I do
that?

Does the following update apply to your issues?

Server 2008 Application Compatibility Update

Sometimes the methods in the following articles
can work:

compatibility issues in Windows Vista

(931361) How to troubleshoot issues that may
prevent a program from being installed correctly
on a Windows Vista-based computer

a program that does not run as expected after
it is installed on Windows Vista

There are two alternatives...if you are willing
to go to the extra trouble...and for either method
you would need a full copy of Windows XP that
could be activated.

#1) Virtual Machine...
This means Windows XP would be running in
a virtual machine on your Vista machine. It works
exactly like it did when it was your primary OS...
you can update it...install programs on it.

run multiple operating systems at
the same time on the same physical
computer.

#2) Dual Boot...IOW...when you start your
computer you would have a choice of which
OS you want to run...Vista or WinXP.

In checking the links...I realize the dual
boot article has been moved...

Here's a new link:

articles: just enter..."dual boot Vista XP")
