Discussion:
Clipart has stopped printing...

I have some pages containing clipart prepared with Word and Publisher, and
some stored as PDF files. They all used to print beautifully, but now some
images don't print at all and some only print a few odd bits of the image.
They all look OK on the screen.

I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit. The printer is an HP Deskjet 1280 and the
driver has not been amended by HP since 2007. There have, however, been
several software updates.

How can I print my clipart?

If all three of these applications are showing the same problem, it probably is
your printer driver. Re-install it, see if that makes a difference.
It is always best to completely remove a driver before installing/re-installing.

The print driver hasn't been updated since 2007... It's not that!

From searching Google, I think that settings related to Graphics and
Grahpics Defaults have been changed on my PC... not by me I hasten to add!

But I can't find where they are on Vista. Do you know?

Printer drivers can become corrupt... You can look in your applications to see
if you have graphic printing enabled. What version Office do you have?

Have you always had Vista on your computer?

Try this, select a different printer as default, you don't need the physical
printer. When you open your application and are ready to print, select your
regular printer.

I have Vista on two computers, I also have HP printers, I have no problem
printing. This is why I think you should re-install your printer driver.

Take a look at this article, it doesn't mention your particular printer, but it
is close.

quality declines after you update the computer to Windows Vista SP2

I have Office 2007, but I created the documents a long time before that,
whatever that was.

Vista has always been on this PC, and MS recently helped me to install SP1.

I could look in my applications... if I could find them, as mentioned in my
previous post:

Did you read the support document I suggested?

There are Vista newsgroups. You could post your issue in one of them. I still
believe it is a faulty printer driver since you are having problems with three
different applications.

Vista does not have a print graphic setting. Each application has its own
setting. In Word 2007, Office button, Display, scroll down to Printing Options,
be certain *Print Drawings created in Word* is checked.

In Publisher, File, Print Setup, Printer Details, Advanced printer setup,
Graphics and Fonts tab.

In Acrobat, Edit, Preferences. I don't know your version, but I'd start with
Page Display.

Those settings are correct to print graphics.

BUT I DON'T want to touch the print driver, because things that I use
regularly are great... my photographs, for example. And I don't want to risk
messing those up!

I have found that, with Word, if I decrease the picture brightness by 1%,
then clipart will print, albeit 1% brighter. Unfortunately I cannot convert
this workround for Publisher.

Well at least I know that my friends can print out my pictures... just I
can't! Another fine mess Vista has gotten me into!
