Discussion:
Error Code 0x80040154: Class not registered
(too old to reply)

I am using Windows Vista and Office 2007. When I try to download clip art
from Microsoft Office Online, Clip Organiser opens but I immediately get the
alert: 'Clip Organizer cannot complete the operation. Class not registered.
Error Code 0x80040154.'
I have searched the Help and Support group and have only found solutions for
Windows XP, which suggest downloading certain files whose effects on Vista I
can't predict. Has anyone found a solution to this problem for Vista?

Did you read the Knowledge Base article here:
You receive a "Clip Organizer Cannot Complete the Operation" error message when
you try to start Clip Organizer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;302375

I know this error happened numerous times in the past for Office. Many times it
was because of mismatched MDAC components. You might download the checker.
MDAC Utility: Component Checker
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=8f0a8df6-4a21-4b43-bf53-14332ef092c9&displaylang=en

I'm not sure registering the OLE32.dll will help, but it won't hurt:
Start, run, enter...

These were the solutions I referred to in my initial post - they specifically
refer to Windows XP (NOT Vista), Office versions NOT INCLUDING Office 200,
and Clip Organiser 2002 - I have the 2006 version.

I tried registering the OLE32.DLL, but I got this alert:

'The module "ole32.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed
with error code 0x800700005. For more information about this problem, search
online using the error code as a search term.'

There were no matches for this error code on the Microsoft Help and Support
site.

In a 'FAQ About Windows DAC/MDAC' (at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms692877(VS.85).aspx) is the
following information:

'Windows Data Access Components (Windows DAC) 6.0 is the version of the data
access technologies—ADO, OLE DB, and ODBC—included in the Windows Vista
operating system. Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) includes earlier
versions of the same technologies, and version 2.8 was included in Windows XP
and Windows Server 2003. There is also a redistributable version, MDAC 2.8
SP1, which should only be used with Windows 2000. Windows DAC includes some
changes to work with Windows Vista, but is almost entirely functionally
equivalent to MDAC 2.8.'

Just in case, I downloaded and ran the component checker, which indicated
the version number of most files was 6.0._____ - I gather this is the Windows
DAC numbering for Vista, which is presumably more up-to-date than the latest
MDAC version 2.8 released in 2005.

it could be valid for Vista

Hi Mary - I'm afraid this hasn't helped either. I HAVE been using the
administrator account. I also tried to execute the instruction through the
Command Prompt (after selecting 'Run as Administrator') and got the same
error.

I have Googled the error code and haven't found any useful info.

Just in case it matters, I'm using Vista Home Premium.
