I just installed Office 2003 and I'm importing my clipart collection from
Word 2000 (from the MS WOrks Office 2001 suite)--from teh same laptop, I
haven't even uninstalled Word 2000 yet. It gets to the point where it says
that it is something like "Clip Organizer is creating collections for you
based on your media files", and then the green bar never moves more than 1/4
inch from the left side. What can I do to get past this point?

Paul, The Organizer will index all the clipart on your hard drive. The Organizer
and the Works Gallery are not compatible. If you want to use all your old
clipart in the Organizer you will have to manually supply categories and
keywords.

You might try to start all over again indexing your clipart. Rename the
MStore10.mgc to MStore10.old. It is a hidden file in a folder similar to this:
C:\Documents and Settings\<<user>>\Application Data\Microsoft\Clip Organizer

Let me make sure I"m not misunderstanding you--I had Works Office Suite 2001
with Word 2000 on it; I am trying to convert clipart from the clipart gallery
in Word 2000, and not from MS Works itself. ANd you are saying that going
from one version of Word to the other can't be done, unless I choose to
manually type in keywords for each item?

If I understand you properly, any idea why MS decided that people wouldn't
be able to convert their clipart collections beyond Word 2000? I mean I've
used MS Word 2002 and Office 2003 before and I don't recall it working any
better than the old clipart gallery in Word 2000.

You can use the Office Clip Gallery if you install it as a standalone from your
Office 2000 disk. You use the Gallery in the later versions of Office through,
Insert, Object.

The Clip Gallery in Works is not the same as the Office Clip Gallery.

OK Mary thank you for your time. Bear with me here....
I tried to circumvent the "different clipart files/programs for different MS
word processors" rule by going back and d/l a clipart library from a
different computer that had Office 2003 on it.
OK I unzipped the file, extracted it to my desktop--and the clipart
organizer still ends up freezing at the same spot--I get the same error
message, with that green bar going to the same spot--roughly 1/4 inch from
the far left.

For what its worth, there are about 215 individual clipart .wfm images that
I've d/l from the MS clipart site. I don't know if this is too much for the
clipart organizer or not. the unizpped file is 8 megs. I wouldn't think that
that would be too much.

You can compact the Organizer, that might do it. Open the Organizer from Start,
Microsoft Office Tools. When the Organizer opens, tools, compact.

Great. I manually added all these items in, but searching does no good now,
because it seems that the keywords are incredibly limited--Earlier, I believe
they at least were organized into sub-folders. I was seriuosly thinking that
this would be a bit easier than its turning out to be. OK I can go back and
re-insert that clipart into the variuos folders.
