Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding clip art. I am trying to create a family tree
chart with my own unique design. I have had a lot of trouble getting clip art
with a nice tree to put in the middle of my chart. There are free downloads
of some trees that microsoft has to offer. There is one that I could use but
I need to make some changes to it. I want to change the color from red to
green and do some other touch ups. When I try and change the color the
software will let me take away color from the tree but will not let me add
the color I want. Is there a rule that you can't manupulate clip art? If so
where can I get a nice clip art design of a tree?? I'm desperate. Does anyone
have any ideas?

Will you be changing the clipart in an Office product? You can ungroup .wmf
images, delete parts you don't want, re-color segments. The following is for
Publisher but it works for most Office products. If the tree is a .jpg about the
only way you can edit it would be take into a program similar to MS .Paint.

Paint.NET is free. A step up from MS Paint.

Hi Mary,

Thanks for your reply. The answer to your question is yes. I downloaded the
free clipart on the microsoft clip art homepage. I found a red tree that
looked fairly good for what I wanted to do. I wanted to take the red out of
it and fill in the color that would make it more to what I wanted. I tried to
use the toolbar to put the color in that I wanted but it would only let me
take color out. I then tried to copy it and paste it on microsoft paint but
it wouldnt paste. There is probably some reason for this. I'm probably not
allowed to do that. I really dont know the rules about clip art.

Well I have been able to take a picture of a nice tree and put it into
microsoft paint and manipulate it some. The only problem is that the pixels
turn out weak and will not work for what I'm trying to do. I do have
publisher so I wil try what you are talking about. I haven't ungrouped any
images so this is an idea.

It would be nice to just find a nice tree clip art design without having to
go to all this trouble but all i have found so far is trees that are designed
to sway or have un- natural colors in them. Anyway thanks for the advice :)
