As an attachment. Your recipient can view the animation with any viewer.

I don't think the answers I've seen address the real issue. How does one
place an animated ClipArt (a GIF) into a e-mail so that the recipient sees
the animation when s/he opens the e-mail? Telling the reader to click on
attachment is no good - that takes the fun out of it. I want it right in the
e-mail itself!

As noted, the e-mail you intend to send has to be in HTML format. (1) With
the insertion point at the spot where you want the animation to go, click the
Insert menu, then > Picture > ClipArt... (2) In the "Search for..." box, type
"animation" and click Go. (3) Wait a few seconds. (4) Find the animation you
want, then click the drop down arrow at the right. Click the word "Insert"
from the pop-up menu.

It truly has nothing to do with putting an animated .gif in an email, anyone can
do it if they select the email as a HTML message. If your recipient hasn't HTML
enabled, the .gif will arrive as an attachment.
