I have 400+ pictures on a flash drive. I view them in Microsoft off picture
viewer and can edit them. I try to save them all and it says the files are
read only and to change the file name to save. I just want to take off the
read only aspect so I can save them all without having to re-name 400
pictures......

As a general rule...it's best if the files are on your
hard drive when you are updating them. Sometimes
corruption can develop when saving from within a
software program to an external storage device.

That said...the following steps might be worth a try...
open the folder on the drive and go to....Edit / Select
All...right click the first file name in the highlighted
group and from the menu...choose...Properties /
General tab... Uncheck the Read Only box...then
click Apply / OK.

Now you should be able to update the files.
