Clip Art does not open - "preparing to install..." and freezes

HP Tablet running XP w/SP2 (purchased 11/2006).
New install (12/2007) of MSOffice 2007 w/ Bus. Contact Mgr.

Downloaded all available MS updates as of 1/5/2008.

All my other programs and the new MSOffice w/BCM programs seem to function
except for the MS Clip Organizer window.

I have tried to download clip art from MS Office Clip Art and Media Homepage
but the program freezes.

Details:

If I try to download a clip art image from the MS Office Clip Art and Media
site (or try to paste an image into a Word doc or open the clip art organizer
from Programs, etc.), a Windows Installer pop-up window opens that reads:
"Preparing to install..." Then everything freezes.

If I wait (usually more than 4 minutes) the MS Clip Organizer window does
open, but I can't download or search for clip art. I am able to open any of
the tabs at the top ribbon. I have clicked on the Tools tab and clicked
Compact. The program appears to do that function as well as the selections
under Help (including the Detect and Repair - which I ran with no positive
results), but it freezes again when I try to Search or download a clip art -
another Windows Installer pop-up window opens again with: "Preparing to
install..." and everything freezes again.

I have deleted my Temp Files folder in IE and restarted the tablet and
repeated the process with no results.

BTW: Clicking the Cancel button on the Windows Installer pop-up window does
nothing. I have to use Task Manager and End the Program.

Help or ideas are appreciated.

Don't know about the "preparing to install", think about doing a detect and
repair. The Organizer has its own detect and repair feature.

Some folks have issues with the Contact Manager. You might disable it to see if
it helps.

Right-click "My Computer" Disconnect Network Drives.

Thanks, but the article you provided does not apply to my situation.
This problem first happened when I tried to download some clip art from the
MS Office Clip Art and Media site.
As I said in my original post, I ran the Detect and Repair feature from the
Clip Organizer; it did not improve anything.
The "Preparing to install" window seems to be the problem. What could MS be
trying to install?
I disabled BCM and I have no network drives to disconnect. The problem
remains. The windows "Preparing to install" window keeps appearing and I
have to wait for it to disappear before the Clip Organizer window is
available, but when that DOES happen (usually about 4 minutes of waiting), as
soon as I try to open anything in my Collection List, the same "Preparing to
install" window appears and I can't do anything more with Clip Organizer,
so...?

I have seen a couple of times a similar problem in clients' machines and I
believe that is due to wrong registry entries.
Probably this is because you renamed program directories.
