I tried to download the activeX control, but it said it could not. I'm not
even sure what ActiveX control means. I set the site as a trusted site
according to the instructions and still internet explorer 7 shuts down when
attempting to download clip art. I am using Microsoft Office 2003. I am not
too computer savvy, so please give step wise feedback.
Thanks--

Did you empty the temporary cache? In Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet
Options, Delete, Delete files.
What are your security settings? The default is Medium-high. When you are
offered the ActiveX control, do you get a message why you cannot download it?

I emptied the temporary cache and checked the security settings (was on
medium-high) as you suggested. First I tried to figure out how to download
Active X control, but I just got routed back to the site
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HP010349411033.aspx (the help and
how-to tab for activeX). Then I tried to download a clip art drawing. The
webpage automatically switched to the activeX control webpage ( I think the
actual download page for activeX, but it disappeared quickly). Then Again, I
got the message Internet Explorer is shutting down, followed by Internet
explorer is restarting. Finally, a little warning came up on the lower right
hand corner of the screen saying, "to protect your computer, data execution
protection is shutting down. After that I'm not sure if I changed anything
else. I just kept trying to figure out how to get the ActiveX download. I may
have decreased the security to medium, following the instructions in the
how-to tab: in fact, I made sure I did everything instructed in that tab.
Anyway, I tried to download another clip, and it worked!! However, then I
tried to download 2 clips and it initially said it would take a couple
minutes on 56k, but then changed to 45 minutes. I canceled that. Now I'm not
sure if it is all working correctly or not. I've had trouble with that data
execution protection shutting internet explorer down before trying to do a
chat on our public library website. Is there anything more I can do to
prevent it from doing that again?
