I really need an answer to this question. First a little background. A
large part of my job is defining shapes, placing them in a program that
illustrates them when placed in a graphical interface in a certain way.

To date, every shape, whether it is a circle, triangle, trapezoid, etc
always has an area shape of a square or rectangle.

Does any program crop to the shape at all? Or am I forever doomed to
squares and rectangles. Next question is how do you get the background to be
transparent.

If you have Word, the shapes are sans rectangle/square. Almost all vector
clipart has no background. Word will make the background transparent of bitmaps
if you use the transparency tool on the picture toolbar.

Transparency usually goes hand in hand with .gif and .png.
Download the free www.irfanview.com and the plug-ins and experiment.

In Picture It! you should be able to create
a cutout of any shape you require. If you
need instructions...post the version of
Picture It! you are using.

Try saving your cutouts in the .gif format
or the .png (portable networks graphics)
format. Then the transparency should be
recognized in other programs.
