Office XP - Catastrophic failure Error Code 0x8000FFF .PNG files

I get error message "Catastrophic failure Error Code 0x8000FFF"
when downloading MS clipart images from their website to "My
Collection-Microscope Clipart Organizer" but ONLY for images with a .PNG
file extension. I executed the "Fix & Repair" and "Compact" utilities within
the Clipart Organizer but neither resolved the problem. I reinstalled Office
XP using the original OEM installation disks, but that didn't resolve the
issue either.

I'm running Office XP SP3 with IE 8 beta 2. I'm not sure how long this
problem has been occurring but believe it started relatively recently.

Some folks overcame this error updating their Java console.

Mary - thank you for the suggestions. Unfortunately the problem still
persists after updating my current version of Java and reading the various
postings on the omgili web site. Do you or anyone else have any other ideas
I can try?

I would suspect IE8...running beta software
can be risky.

And...if this is a recent development and the
issue with .png did not always occur with IE8...
it may be worth a try to do a system restore
to a time before it began.

Mary,

Thanks for the ideas. I uninstalled IE 8. I've validated my SQL Server
ODBC Driver version and confirmed that my MDAC components are current. Do
you have any other ideas on things I can check? I've downloaded the Process
Explorer utility from SysInternals but do NOT observe anything out of the
ordinary. Is there anywhere else that more diagnostic information can be
found (e.g. a log file)?

Regards,
John

Hi John, I have no idea how to solve your error. Maybe if you ask in an OS
forum? Or a SQL forum. Look under Developer Discussions.

John,

I have found that the problem lies in an updated version of Microsoft Clip
Organizer that is included with XP SP3.

See these articles:
http://www.techtalkz.com/microsoft-design-gallery/236173-error-code-0x8000ffff.html

Not sure what the answer is. The options only seem to be to downgrade to
SP2 or go without PNG files. Poor choice to have to make.

Maybe you can direct me to a .png file from the Office site so I can test this.
