When trying to download clipart from the office website, I receive an error
message
that reads; "Clip organizer cannot complete the operation, Catastrophic
failure, error code 0x8000FFFF". Can anyone tell me why this is happening
and/or what I can do to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Dana

Is it a new error? Have you been able to download okay in the past? Look at your
firewall, is it allowing Office downloads?

Empty your temporary cache, in Internet Explorer, tools, Internet options,
delete files.

Is your Java current?

Yes this is a new error message. I have had no problems downloading clipart
in the past, even with my firewall. I cleaned my internet files, cookies, and
passwords and still no luck.
I'm running Windows XP w/ sp2 and Office XP.

Are your MDAC components current? You could have a mismatched component,
download the checker:

I'm not sure how do do this; not experienced enough. I'll need someone to
show me how to do this checker download. I don't want to mess anything up.
I'd assume things are okay, since I've downloaded clipart before. I don't
think anything has changed. Thank you anyway.

Are you getting the very same error as the original poster? 0x8000FFFF? Have you
checked your firewall? Emptied your temporary cache? In Internet Explorer,

Yes, the same thing as the original poster. I haven't checked these things.
I'll need to get help later since it's something I've never done. I don't
have help at this time. I was hoping it was something wrong on your side and
not mine.

Mary, I'm having the same problem as well

"Clip Organizer cannot complete the operation.

Catastrophic failure
Error Code 0x8000FFFF"

This is the first time I can remember downloading clip art in a long time,
and I tried downloading 6 pictures or so at once. The first 5 downloaded and
imported fine, but the last one gave me the error message. Since then, I
cannot even d/l 1 clip art image. (It can't be my firewall, because nothing
changed between those first 5 that downloaded and the last one).

I've tried deleting my browsing history (cache and temp internet files) as
well as using compact from the clip organizer, and detect and repair. I've
even followed the suggestion from another post of yours I read to rename the
mstore10.mgc file and so it created a new one. Again, no luck.

It sounds like this is a problem on Microsoft's end, and I hope they have a
fix for it soon. Unless there's anything else you can think of?

I’m having the same problem with the same error code but it seems to happen
only on png files. All other file types (jpg, gif, wmf, wav) seem to
download just fine. I’ve tried all of the suggestions: cleared cache, moved
the cache folder, ran detect and repair on Clip Organizer, disabled my
firewall. The behavior is the same and very repeatable on IE and FF.

Hope that sheds more light on the problem and leads to a quick fix.

Cheers

Have you tried to replace the .png filter?
The filters are in a folder similar to this
C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Grphflt

Rename the PNG32.FLT to PNG32.old and drag a new instance from your setup disk.

Thanks for the quick reply Mary.

I couldn’t find the png32.flt file on any of the Office XP/Publisher CDs.
But when I changed the file name and ran Detect and Repair in Clip Organizer
it prompted me for the Publisher CD and replaced the file (dated 6/2/2006
4:09PM.) I’m guessing this file came from the web since the PC and SW are
older than that. In any case, the problem is still there.

We have 3 PCs running Office XP and they all have the same problem. We have
1 PC running Office 2003 and it does not exhibit the problem. I suppose we
can use that one as a download slave but it would be nicer if we could fix
the problem.

Would rerunning Office XP SP3 help or hurt? I’m game for any suggestions.

Have you tried to replace the .png filter?
The filters are in a folder similar to this
C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Grphflt
Rename the PNG32.FLT to PNG32.old and drag a new instance from your setup disk.

I'm having the same problem with the same error code but it seems to happen
only on png files. All other file types (jpg, gif, wmf, wav) seem to
download just fine. I've tried all of the suggestions: cleared cache, moved
the cache folder, ran detect and repair on Clip Organizer, disabled my
firewall. The behavior is the same and very repeatable on IE and FF.
Hope that sheds more light on the problem and leads to a quick fix.
Cheers

Rhonda, There is one more thing you can try. Move the temporary folder. Internet
Explorer, tools, Internet Options, settings, move folder.
I have researched this error. There are different causes none of which I can
comprehend. Is your Java Virtual Machine current?

Post by Mary Sauer
Are you getting the very same error as the original poster? 0x8000FFFF?
Have
you
checked your firewall? Emptied your temporary cache? In Internet Explorer,
tools, Internet Options, delete files.
Open the Organizer from Start, Microsoft Office Tools, when the Organizer
opens,
tools, compact.

I'm not sure how do do this; not experienced enough. I'll need someone to
show me how to do this checker download. I don't want to mess anything up.
I'd assume things are okay, since I've downloaded clipart before. I don't
think anything has changed. Thank you anyway.

I'm having the same problem...Is this temporaray?

Are your MDAC components current? You could have a mismatched
component,

Yes this is a new error message. I have had no problems downloading
clipart
in the past, even with my firewall. I cleaned my internet files,
cookies,
and
passwords and still no luck.
I'm running Windows XP w/ sp2 and Office XP.
Post by Mary Sauer
Is it a new error? Have you been able to download okay in the
past?
Look
at
your
firewall, is it allowing Office downloads?
Empty your temporary cache, in Internet Explorer, tools, Internet
options,
delete files.

We had this Clip Organizer error about Catastrophic failure with error
0x8000FFFF. Did a manual update of Java, that is, downloaded file to disk
and updated from there. For some reason an automatic Java update kept
hanging so I did a manual update (after rebooting to make sure automatic
install was ended). Now Clip Organizer does not give above error.

I've tried both the automated Java update as well as a manual update file
download and (re)install for Java v6 u3 (with plentiful reboots) and I'm
still suffering the same problem.

Keep the suggestions coming.

Same error for me, too.

I've compacted and repaired the clip organiser.

I've re-installed Java.

It works from colleagues' machines, so it can't be the firewall or web
filtering software.

I'm at a loss for what else to do...

Cheers,

Tom.

Mary - I am having the same problem and also all of the previously downloaded
clips in my organizer cannot be accessed - a yellow X appears in the click
box. I have tried to delete them, but cannot do that. Any suggestions? I
did empty the temporary tiles from Internet options. Thanks, Jill

Have you moved your Microsoft Clip Organizer out of the "My Pictures" folder?
Sounds like the Organizer is looking for these clips and you have moved them.

Could be you need to compact and repair the Organizer.

Start, Microsoft Office Tools, Microsoft Clip Organizer. When the Organizer
opens, tools, compact. Help, detect and repair.

Hi,

I'm having the same trouble.

Computer was recently rebuilt, and I've not muched about with these
components, so there's nothing odd there.

I'm just trying a detect and repair of the clip organiser. Will reply on
how that goes.

Cheers.
